Another Fallen Hero

Lead singer of my favorite band of all time, Barenaked Ladies, arrested on drug possession charges AND in the town outside of Syracuse where my sister lives (Fayetteville, NY). The drug possession bothers me of course, but not as much as the fact that he has been married for 14+ years and was found with 20 something chickies doing the coke.

I did it

Today is the day. I signed up on www.weightwatchers.com and I am going to my first meeting tomorrow night.

Since I want to encourage my babies to have healthy eating habits, it's a good time for me to start really trying and getting into that habit as well. So be prepared to listen to me bitch and moan about this journey I am taking. It won't be a pleasant one. You have been warned.

Love this picture

In spite of my mom's decolletage, I love this picture of her with Ainsley from our recent trip home to Geneva. They were entertaining each other after our swim in the lake.

Overheard

At Rochester International Airport (yes even Rochester has an international airport), Gate B6:

Man with preemie child (mom listening to conversation) to young woman with 5 month old baby in Snugli after very brief conversation regarding their babies: "Do you have a husband?"

Me to myself: WTF?? Here I thought the most annoying things that people asked me was bad!? Yikes!

But then again, right after he asked, young woman divulged that she was a single mom and her boyfriend was cheating on her. Poor thing.

If one more person asks or says to me...

1) If we've seen the show Jon and Kate Plus 8 (don't get Rory started on them. He goes on a diatribe about how they get everything for free, they get a ton of help, they deserved it by getting preggers another time and risking the fate of having 6, etc., etc., etc. but then again, can't say I can blame him as I am a tad jealous--not having 8 kids but all of the freebies they get)

2) If the twins are identical (duh! they're a boy and a girl!)

3) Twins? (no, they're just really really really close in age!)

4) If we had infertility treatments (hello?! none of your *$&(ing business!)

5) You sure have your hands full (sheesh! Rub it in, why don't ya?! Masters of the obvious)

6) "Uh oh! Double trouble!" (the dumbest line of all!)

Don't ask what I will do...

100 Things Worth Remembering (Part Two)

Because I am in such a crappy mood today (Ainsley's sick and I am here at my stupid work) and for another reason, which I cannot mention on the Internet, I decided to post part 2 of my 100 things in the hopes that it would make me feel better.

26. "Sleeping" on the exercise ball in the last few weeks of my pregnancy because I couldn't lie down because it was too painful. I was never so appreciative of being able to sleep on my stomach again after that experience.

27. Being in the hospital with the babies and then taking them home. Although it was an anxiety-ridden time, it was truly a magical time as well.

28. Ainsley touching my face after she was first born. She still does this to this day!

29. My paternal grandfather, Bill Viertel, sitting on the couch next to me right before he died and saying, "I thought your parents were crazy when they had six kids but I am so glad that they did." I am #6.

30. Playing Monopoly Junior with my nephew, Adam, when he was just 2 years old. He is now almost 20 years old.

31. The first week of my time at UD. Best days of my life!

32. Meeting the lead singer of Barenaked Ladies, Steven Page, my favorite band of all time!

33. Seeing my mother cry while she watched over me when I was in the hospital when I was little (one of the many times). I now get it.

34. Peyton as a puppy. He was so soft!

35. Winning the cheerleading  competition in grammar school. Go SMS!

36. Liam peeing in the bathtup and looking up and smiling at me with a sly grin.

37. My childhood friend, Mary Jo Fayette.

38. The feeling of being so excited to see my siblings when my brothers and sisters were coming home from college.

39. 8th grade...enough said. I had a blast in NJ!

40. Going to Bingo with my Grandma Nez.

41. My dad giving me a bike for Christmas when I was law school. He knew I wanted one and purchased it all by himself. My mom was furious at how much he spent.

42. My first job as a Paralegal. I made a whopping $14,000 and no benefits AND I had to wear skirts everyday because the lawyer for whom I worked forbade women from wearing pants in the office.

43. Seeing my babies sick. I have never felt so helpless in my life but seeing them go through this makes me appreciate my mom even more.

44. Rory singing to me when we first started dating. He now sings to the babies.

45. Watching "Family Ties" (following the "Cosby Show" of course). I still adore Michael J. Fox.

46. Moving away from our house in Oswego. I saved pieces of the wallpaper.

47. Seeing my babies (just this past weekend!) enjoy "whole" food. Turkey...cheese....raisins!

48. My dad. He is such a great man.

49. Completing the Avon Breast Cancer 3 Day walk of 60 miles. What a feat! Pun intended.

50. Working at Geneva on the Lake waiting on Senator Moynihan, Susan Saint James (of the TV show "Kate and Allie" fame) Paul Newman and Wayne Newton.

The Good Old Days

Rory, me and the babies went to my 15 year (ugh!) college reunion in Dayton, OH at the University of Dayton. We flew into Columbus, where my brother and his family lives and then drove down with my niece who will be a sophomore at UD in the fall with her friend to help out with the babies (they were wonderful! We wanted to bring them home with us). I relived my youth and saw old pals that I haven't seen in years. It was like no time had passed. The campus may have changed but it was same old community that I remember. Even our old house at 459 Lowes was there! Even the same couch! Yikes!

I wanted to wear my "porch party" bracelet that they gave us but Rory vetoed that. Back to reality I guess...*sigh*

What Kind of Dog are you?

As it turns out, I am a Jack Russell...hmmm....

Jack Russell Terrier

The Artist

You, my friend, are an artiste! Fuelled by a hounding sense of creativity and an untameable desire to express yourself, you see the world through rose-colored glasses one day and then wrestle the curtains closed and turn off the lights so you can ponder life the next. Your dog-eared journal is filled with brilliant ideas about rescuing the universe, yet you have trouble training your noggin on any one of them for any significant amount of time. Your originality occasionally manifests itself as performance art, and you love showing off your amazing athletic abilities in front of an audience. When it comes to taking on the leader of the pack, you’re not afraid to sink your teeth in - and won't loosen your grip until you've gotten your point across.

What dog breed are you? I'm a Jack Russell Terrier! Find out at Dogster.com

All Grown Up

Well at least that's how I saw my babies last night and this morning. Last night, Rory and I were sharing at plate of pasta from one of those frozen throw it in a skillet pasta dishes. Liam was fussing so I held him while I ate. He was staring at me and watched my every forkful. So I gave him a little piece of pasta. He LOVED it and ate a lot of it after that. It was the cutest thing. As a sidenote, this is not their first solid food by any means but it was their first "real" food other than jarred or homemade pureed food (we tried before but they gagged horrificly). Then Ainsley saw what was happening and wanted part of the grown up food action. And then this morning, they started feeding themselves Cheerios and Gerber Puffs. It was the most heart warming and cutest thing. They grow up so fast!  What's next? Driving? College? If only we could all live our lives like they do with wonderment and contentment with the littlest things. Ainsley was doing her "I am happy I am eating dance." Gotta love it!
